Description / Background

The memorial hall was constructed as a School of Arts in 1902 and officially opened on 14 January 1903. In 1923, the front was altered by the addition of a brick façade. Constructed by C.W. Cooke, the additions were erected as a memorial to the soldiers who enlisted in the Great War from the Red Range district. The marble Honour Roll attached to the brickwork, was created at the end of the war and lists the names of 38 men who enlisted. R.J. Lightfoot of Glen Innes completed the Roll. Colonel Abbott unveiled both the additions and the roll on 12 December 1923.
