All Saints' Anglican Church First World War Memorial Window, Woollahra Middle Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The First World War memorial window at All Saints' Anglican Church in Woollahra, NSW is situated in the northern aisle, on western end of the church. The window is made up of three vertical stained glass panels, topped with three stained glass rosettes. The window's theme is Abraham offering up Isaac. A timber dedication panel is attached to the sandstone window sill. Mrs Kate Mackintosh Mort, wife of the first rector Canon H. Wallace Mort, organised the fundraising for the window. Mrs Mort had been responsible for the preliminary musical training of several hundred choir boys at the church. According to her obituary, "[d]uring 1924 she collected more than £300 for the purpose of erecting a memorial window to the All Saints' boys who fell in the war, the contributors including a large number of boys formerly connected with the parish" (The Sydney Morning Herald, 1 Feb 1926). The window was made by Messrs Heaton, Butler and Payne, London. Heaton, Butler & Bayne (1852–1953) was a stained glass firm founded in 1852 by Clement Heaton (1824–1882), who was influenced by Pugin. Heaton's research into pigments resulted in an extended range of colours. Prior to establishing his own firm in London, he had previously worked for William Holland. James Butler (1830–1913), became a partner in 1855. In 1862, Robert Bayne (1837–1915), who had designed for Clayton & Bell, entered the partnership. The firm continued to be run by their sons until 1953. The church building is made of sandstone in the Gothic Revival style. It was designed by architect Edmund Blackett and was constructed between 1876–1882.
