Armidale Born Vietnam Veterans Honour Roll Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This war memorial is a bronze honour roll for those who were born in Armidale, NSW, and served in the Vietnam War. At the top of the plaque are the emblems of the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Military Forces, and the Royal Australian Air Force. The names of 69 veterans are arranged in alphabetical order by surname across two columns. They are in raised lettering, with the surnames in uppercase. The plaque was made by the Phoenix Foundry in Uralla, NSW, who have created a number of bronze memorial plaques that can be found throughout Australia and overseas. It was funded by a grant of $1,000 awarded to the Armidale R.S.L. sub-Branch by the NSW Government. The funds were to assist with the purchase of the plaque and installation costs. The grant was announced on 28 May 2021 by Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall. The unveiling ceremony was originally planned for Vietnam Veterans Day, 18 August 2021, in conjunction with the 55th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan. However, due to restrictions for COVID-19 in place at the time, it was postponed until Remembrance Day, 11 November. The ceremony was hosted by the sub-Branch and held in Armidale's Central Park, near the Armidale War Memorial Fountain. The commemorative address was given by Doug Lennox Warrant Officer Class 1 OAM retired and Colonel Rod Davis OAM unveiled the plaque. The memorial has since been moved inside the Armidale War Memorial Library. Access to view it is restricted to the opening hours of the library.
