Description / Background

This sanctuary lamp is dedicated to David Clement Loubet Wilson and Wilfrid Garde Wilson, who served in the Second World War. It is a decorative bronze lamp, with a red glass on top. The inscription is etched into the main body of the lamp. It is suspended with chains from the ceiling of St Peters Cathedral, Armidale, positioned before the altar at the eastern end of the building.

The lamp was presented to the church by Dr. Kent Hughes, David and Wilfrid's mother. It was dedicated on 2 October 1949 by The Bishop of Armidale, Dr J.S. Moyes (The Armidale Express and New England General Advertiser, 30 September 1949).

David Wilson was born in Melbourne on 7 May 1918. He enlisted for service in the war at Armidale on 27 May 1940 and was discharged as a Major on 20 June 1947 from the ADV L H Headquarters A M F. 

Wilfrid Wilson was born on 28 February 1922 at Kingaroy, Queensland. He enlisted at Toowoomba, Queensland, on 10 December 1941. As a Sergeant he was discharged on 30 July 1943 from the 17th Field Regiment. He enlisted in Sydney on 5 August 1943 in the Royal Australian Air Force. As a Flying Officer he was discharged from the 7th Transport and Movements Office on 10 May 1946.
