Description / Background

This Book of Remembrance for the First and Second World Wars is located in a timber and glass cabinet in the foyer of the Armidale War Memorial Library in Rusden Street, Armidale. It was originally dedicated in the foyer of the Memorial Library in Faulkner Street and was moved to its present location after 2019.

A list of names of those who served in each war was compiled in the early 1950s for the Councils of the City of Armidale and Dumaresq Shire. It was donated by the Armidale sub-Branch of the Returned Sailors', Soldiers' and Airmen's Imperial League of Australia (R.S.S. and A.I.L.A.). This list formed the basis of the Book. A separate section was devoted to enlistees from the Hillgrove district. The timber cabinet housing the Book was made and presented by Claude A. Skinner, a local craftsman.
