It is made of polished maple and measures 6 feet 8 inches by 3 feet 6 inches. The pediment features a carving of the Australian Imperial Forces emblem, surrounded by gum leaves and fruit. The roll contains the names of all ex-pupils from Auburn Superior Public School who enlisted in the war. They are neatly printed in gold across four columns. There were originally 174 names on the roll, with 16 names subsequently added. There are now 200 names listed, 199 men and one woman, Nurse A. H. Wood. Those who died are included on the roll but are not identified as such. The board was a gift to the school by Alderman G. H. Richie of Richie Bros., railway carriage builders of Auburn. It was designed by Mr B. Clamp, architect, and the lettering was executed by Mr S. Paris of Auburn. It was unveiled at the school on 20 May 1918, by the Minister for Public Instruction, the Hon. A. G. F. James M.L.A. The board is mounted in the corridor of the school, now known as Auburn Public School, immediately in front of the school office. It is not accessible to the public. Note: Four Auburn War Memorial men 2121 Arthur Betts, 4758 Herbert Creagh, 3458 James Stewart, and 1636 Horace Thoroughgood were students of Auburn Public School and their names are recorded on this honour roll, but they were not included in the Auburn Boys Public School Great War Photographic Honour Roll of 1929. At the same time, note that four names that were included in the photographic honour roll are not found on the Auburn Public School honour roll. Those names are 3010 Henry Bancroft, George Bancroft, 5198 Harry Stanmore, and Captain Brindley Woodland.
