Lance Corporal Sidney (Sydney) Dunn Memorial Window, Auburn Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This simple stained glass window is located inside Auburn Presbyterian Church. It is dedicated to Lance Corporal Sidney (Sydney) Dunn, service number 864, who was killed in action in the First World War. It features a vibrant, geometric design, instead of pictorial imagery. It contains colourful panes of pink, blue, and yellow glass to surround the inscription, which is in orange. The dedication misspells Dunn's name as 'Sydney' and gives his date of death as 19 July 1918. However, his service records indicate he died on 18 July. It is most likely a church official or the craftsman made the mistake in spelling. The name of Sidney Dunn is absent from both the Auburn Presbyterian Church First World War Honour Roll and the Auburn Presbyterian Church First World War Memorial Window, which list the 10 church members who had died in the war. It can only be assumed that Sidney's family came forward requesting he be honoured in the church, after the roll and window were completed and installed. This is a reasonable assumption as Sidney's name was a late addition to the Auburn War Memorial, that is, after 30 April 1922.
