Collingullie and District Second World War Honour Roll Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial commemorates those from the district who served in the Second World War. It is a polished timber honour roll topped with a classical pediment, with a small shelf at the top and bottom and decorative columns framing either side of the memorial. The names of 54 veterans are painted in gold and listed alphabetically in two columns on the board. Three names are marked with an asterisk, indicated they lost their lives. A welcome home banquet for former servicemen and women was held in the original Collingullie Hall in late October 1946. The event was presided over by Mr A A Rudd, President of the Collingullie Hall Committee, and the honour roll was unveiled by Mr E H Graham, MLA, Minister for Agriculture. Each guest was presented with a framed copy of "The Call to Arms" certificate. A silent toast to the fallen was observed, after which Mr J H Smith, a First World War veteran, recited "The Ode" (The Daily Advertiser (Wagga Wagga), 28 October 1946). The honour roll is now located in the Collingullie Soldiers Memorial Hall, which was opened on 11 August 1948. The memorial is available for viewing when the hall is open for social occasions.
