Cudgen Second World War Memorial Avenue Middle Image Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial consists of three pine trees, which are planted alongside Crescent Street in Cudgen, NSW. Each tree is accompanied by a metal plaque, mounted on a metal stand. They are inscribed with the names of three Second World War veterans who died during service. Two of the plaques are decorated with red flowers. The trees were planted on 25 April 1947, as part of Anzac Day commemorations jointly organised by the local RSL sub-Branch and the Cudgen Memorial Committee. The event was described in detail in the Tweed Daily on 1 May. Attendees marched to the Cudgen Hall, where the service was held. Afterwards, the crowd assembled for the planting, while the committee prepared the trees. The article also lists the names of five other veterans who were being remembered; however, their trees and plaques are no longer on site. All eight veterans are listed in the table below. The Cudgen Unknown Soldier Memorial and Cudgen Lone Pine are also located on Crescent Street. Inscription Plaque 1 L. Moss Plaque 2 J.S. Turnock Plaque 3 C.
