Description / Background

The Eden Creek District Second World War Honour Roll is a highly polished board made of local timber. It has an overall rectangular shape, topped with a classical pediment. Its decorative features include timber columns and a painted banner ribbon, which highlights the words 'Honour roll'. The ribbon is painted in a vibrant blue, which contrasts with the dark timber and golden lettering of the names of those who served.

The honour roll was unveiled at the Eden Creek Hall on 3 September 1949, with the event being reported in the Northern Star on 5 September. The unveiling was organised by a local committee, for which Mr F. Newton was President and Mr W. T. Cullen was Secretary. The Kyogle Examiner, 6 September 1949 also described the function in detail. It stated that, "Eden Creek Hall was packed to capacity on Saturday night when Sir Earle Page, M.H.R., unveiled an honour roll bearing the names of men from that district who served in World War Two." The audience included visitors from surrounding districts and former residents who had returned for the occasion. Special guests included local dignitaries and representatives of veterans organisations.
