Kyogle Great War Honor Roll Middle Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This war memorial consists of two large rectangular honor rolls for the First World War. The boards are made of timber and are identical in design. They have simple pediments at the top and minimal decoration, featuring only a carved edge around the main panel of each board. The names are printed in alphabetical order in gold, across five columns on each board. Veterans from Bonalbo are listed in last two columns on the second board. The rolls were previously housed in the old Council Chambers, which later became the Baby's Health Centre. When the new chambers were completed, they were moved to the foyer of the new building. Later, they were moved again to the Kyogle Seniors' Centre, which also houses the Kyogle RSL sub-Branch office. Positioned between them on the wall is a smaller timber board, bearing the words of The Ode. These boards are the second set of First World War honor rolls in Kyogle. The original was a single board, unveiled at the Kyogle Soldiers Memorial Club on 11 October 1921. The Northern Star, 15 October, reported it contained the names of 450 men from Kyogle and the Bonalba District. Later, a separate list for Bonalbo was added. This board was re-designed at some stage, and is listed on the NSW War Memorials Register as the Kyogle Memorial Institute First World War Honor Roll. It now has some 520 names. Access to this memorial is restricted to the opening hours of the Seniors' Centre.
