Forbes Methodist Church Memorial Hall and First World War Roll of Honor Middle Image Image Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial is a brick hall, attached to the existing church building, dedicated to those who served in the First and Second World Wars. The foundation stone was laid on 11 September 1953 and the hall was opened on 24 April 1954. The dedication is etched into a glass panel above the side entrance door. Inside the building is a polished wooden First World War honour roll, with 21 names printed in gold shadow lettering. The honour roll is located in the foyer of the building to the rear left-hand side of the church and is visible through the side door. The Forbes Advocate, 3 August 1951, revealed that Mr W R Glasson, a sheep breeder from Molong and nephew of the late Reverend William Glasson who served the church until 1900, had donated £5,000 to the War Memorial Trust fund. On 10 September 1951 plans for the church hall were presented to the public with the hope that building operations would commence before the end of the year. However, delays occurred, and it was not until July 1952 that tenders were called (The Forbes Advocate, 11 July 1952). The foundation stone for the hall was laid on 11 September 1953 by Mr Glasson (The Forbes Advocate, 15 September 1953). Seven months later the memorial hall was opened and dedicated on 24 April 1954 by Reverend R H Doust, property secretary of the NSW Methodist Conference, with more than 200 people in attendance. The hall, built by Mr Keith Ross and designed by Architects Brown and Mowbray, was described as a handsome £10,000 red brick, concrete and glass building adjoining the Forbes Methodist Church (The Forbes Advocate, 30 April 1954).
