Description / Background

This commemorative plaque is inscribed with the names of servicemen from the Goulburn area who served in the Sudan Campaign of 1885. The text is accompanied by an illustration of the Khedive's Star medal from 1884–1886. The plaque is mounted on a concrete block. 

This is one of a series of special memorials on the pathway from the Rocky Hill War Memorial Museum to the nearby Rocky Hill War Memorial Tower and First World War Honour Roll.

The Soudan Campaign 1885

This plaque is to commemorate

the 120th Anniversary of this Campaign

and to honour

the Goulburn men listed below,

who went as part of the

New South Wales contingent to the Soudan

(Egypt) on the 3rd March 1885 and all returned

safely on the 23rd June 1885.
