Leggett Memorial

This war memorial is a two-piece bronze and steel sculptural panel. It was created by Belgian artist Henk Delabie and incorporates a series of bronze objects produced by Belgian children. A silhouette of a soldier is cut out of panel, representing Corporal William Thomas Leggett. Corporal Leggett is believed to have been the first soldier killed in action in the defence of Ypres, Belgium, during the First World War. The work depicts how the children view Leggett's and Australia's role in their town's history.

The first version of the sculpture sits in the grounds of the Geluwe Church on the Menin Road in Belguim.
