M.U.I.O.O.F. Loyal Belle of the West Lodge No. 74 First World War Honor Board Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This photographic honour roll depicts 15 members of the Manchester United Independent Order of Oddfellows (M.U.I.O.O.F.) who served in the First World War. The men belonged to the Loyal Belle of the West Lodge, no. 74, of Wellington, NSW. Each photo is accompanied by the man's name and rank. The memorial was designed and decorated by Brother F. C. Wall. It was unveiled at a dance at the Oddfellows Hall on 5 October 1916 by the District Deputy Grand Master, Brother C. E. Barnes. The well-attended event was covered by the Wellington Times on 9 October. The article described the memorial as an unusual form, saying: It was rather what might be termed an illustrated and illuminated photo group in a carved oak frame. In the centre was the symbolic design of the order in colors, with a couple of smaller ones in the two bottom corners. At the time of unveiling, the board contained 12 photos. Brother Wall placed the photo of Sergeant W. G. Barker in the middle of the top row, as he was the only brother who had died at that stage. Spaces were left open for further enlistees and the order's district officers, whose images eventually filled the three spaces in the bottom row. The roll was later moved to the Wellington Museum, where is available for viewing when the museum is open.
