Wellington Western Stores and Edgleys Second World War Honour Roll Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The Wellington Western Stores and Edgleys Second World War Honour Roll is a stately timber board, created to commemorate the service of employees from The Western Stores and Edgleys Ltd in the war. The company was a department store and had at least two branches in the region, in Wellington and Orange. The board has an elegant design and exhibits quality craftsmanship. It has a curved pediment at the top, with shelves at the top and the bottom and carved columns on either side. It is not known when the memorial was constructed or dedicated. However, as the names listed on the honour roll are not organised alphabetically, this could indicate that the roll was made during rather than after the war. It is also possible it was made by Murray Bros. of Wellington, who made the Wellington Apex Club Second World War Honour Roll, which is a similar design and execution. It is likely that the roll was unveiled and installed in the Western Stores and Edgleys Ltd. It is now located in the Wellington History Museum.
