Description / Background

The Nevertire Memorial Hall was constructed between 1936-1937. It was built from brick and has corrugated iron cladding. It has a gabled roof at the front of the building as well as a verandah, with steel posts set in concrete. To one side is an alcove, which has been added at a later stage.

On 24 June 1936, The Sydney Morning Herald reported a resolution was passed under the Public Reserves Enabling Act for land at Nevertire so the Trustees could borrow money to build a public hall. The work was complete by December the following year and the hall was opened with a ball on New Years Eve that was advertised in the Narromine News and Trangie Advocate, 23 December 1937.

At the hall is a white marble honour roll for the First World War. It originally belonged to the Nevertire Public School. The roll was prepared by Mr McFarlane, the school teacher. It was unveiled by the President of the Marthaguy Shire Council, Mr C.W. Brown, on 20 April 1921 (The Dubbo Dispatch, 22 April 1921).

The Nevertire Public School opened in September 1883 and closed in December 2005. In time, the roll was moved from the school and placed on the side of the hall.
