Orange Methodist Sunday School Great War Honor Roll (Lost) Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background Note: This listing describes an honour roll that is lost and has no location at which it can be viewed. The memorial is possibly an illuminated address set within a timber frame. It demonstrates the skill of the craftsperson with decorative features including stylised lettering and illustrations of scrolls and open books. At the top it has the symbol of the burning flame with shields decorated by the Union Jack and Australian flags. The names are handwritten in two columns, surrounded by an illustration of a frame. The Leader (Orange), 1 February 1918 reported that invitations had been "issued by members of the Orange Methodist Sunday School for a special service to be held in the school hall on Sunday afternoon next when the honour roll will be unveiled by the Superintendent Mr Thomas Argall. The roll contains the names of 31 former scholars ... The ceremony will be presided over by Reverend C.P. Walkden Brown." A photograph of the roll was published in The Leader on 4 February 1918 (see image above), as well as a detailed description of the unveiling service. During the addresses, Reverend Walkden Brown thanked Mr Campbell, a local artist, for painting and inscribing the roll. As of June 2024 the honour roll has not been located.
