Description / Background

The memorial is a 19th century gabled rendered building with a galvanised iron roof and an entranceway on the western side of the building. The front hall was built in 1845 and the rear hall which was built in 1860 was the first school built in Richmond. The premises were sold to the Masonic Lodge in 1929 and purchased by the Richmond RSL sub-Branch in 1996.

Above the front entrance is a metal plaque inscribed with the dedication to the men and women of the district who served in the Armed Services. The dedication ceremony and unveiling of the plaque took place on 27 September 1998.
