Rous Mill and District First and Second World Wars Memorial Tablet Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This simply designed 'In Memoriam' tablet is made from distinctive marble, with beige and brown tones. It has a triangular pediment, inscribed with the word 'Sacred'. In the centre of the tablet are the names of those district residents who died in the First and Second World Wars. The names from the First World War are accompanied by their enlistment dates and dates of death, given as month and year. The inscription further identifies that all seven soldiers were killed in France. The five names from the Second World War do not have additional details and were added to the tablet at a later date. The tablet would have been unveiled at the Temperance Hall, Rous Mill. In time, a School of Arts Hall was built, which was later demolished for the construction of the Rous Mill and District Memorial Hall. The memorial is located in the hall and access is by appointment/tour. Some of the veterans listed on this memorial are also on the Rous Mill and District First and Second World Wars Roll of Honor, which is also inside the hall. Inscription SACRED In Memoriam.
