Description / Background

This listing details two timber boards located in St Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Murwillumbah, NSW. The boards are attached to a wall in the church's west transept.

The top board is a First World War honour roll, created in 1915. It is a simply designed piece, finished with a dark stain.  At the top, it has a classical curved pediment, above a small shelf. There is also a shelf at the bottom of the board. The names of those who served in the war are neatly painted in gold across four columns.

The First World War roll was unveiled on 30 June 1916 by Mesdames McIlwraith and Wardrop (Tweed Daily, 31 January 1916). At that stage, the roll was attached to the St Andrew's Presbyterian Church Great War Memorial Pipe Organ. It was moved to the transept in the mid-1950s.

Positioned on the wall below the 1915-1916 roll is a smaller timber plaque dedicated to those who served in the Second World War. No names are listed on this plaque. The history of this memorial is unknown.
