Description / Background

St Clement's Anglican Church in Mosman, NSW, contains 10 brass and marble plaques commemorating 10 parishioners who lost their lives during the First World War. The plaques are attached to the side walls of the church.

Inscription

Plaque 1

In loving memory of L/Cpl Claude H Le Quesne, 5th Aust. Machine Gun Coy. AIF, Killed in action Passchendaele Ridge, 9th October 1917, aged 20 years. 'He liveth in a land that is fairer than day.'

Plaque 2

This amplifying system has been installed to the glory of God and in loving memory of Cpl Roderick Francis Macdonald 10th Inf. Battalion AIF. Killed in Action - Merris. France. 30th July 1918, aged 22 years.

Plaque 3

In loving memory of Corporal Howard T McKern, 4th Battalion, AIF. Died at Malta 15th August 1915 from wounds received in the charge of the 1st Brigade, Lone Pine, Gallipoli. Aged 22 years. 'He counted not his life dear unto himself.'

Plaque 4

Also his brother Stewart H G McKern, MM, 1st Field QS Engineers, AIF. Killed in action Passchendaele, France, 6th October 1917. Aged 22 years. 'Blessed be the pure in heart.'

Plaque 5

In loving memory of Lieut. Gordon F Nalder, A Co. 17th Batt. AIF. Killed in action at Bullecourt 3rd May 1917, aged 25 years. 'Nearer my God to Thee.'

Plaque 6

In loving memory of Sergt. Robert A Nalder, 18th Batt. AIF. Who died at sea 16th July 1915, aged 19 years. 'Thy will be done.'

Plaque 7

In loving memory of Pte. Percy Hobson Fallick, 47th Batt. 12th Brigade AIF. Killed in action France 7th June 1917. 'Greater love hath no man than this. That a man should lay down his life for his friends.' St John 15:13. Also in loving memory of Cecil Harcourt Fallick, late AIF died 6th April 1924.

Plaque 8

In memory of Roy Dunsmure Gilfillan who died on transport at sea 23rd June 1915.

Plaque 9

In loving memory of Sig. Kenneth H Bryant 13th Batt. Died of Wounds at Hebuterne, France. 9th April 1918. Aged 20 years. 'With Christ which is far better.'

Plaque 10

In loving memory of Pte. Percy A StClair, 9th Machine Gun Co. AIF. Died 8th June 1917 of wounds received at Messines, aged 28 years. 'Until the day break and the shadows flee away.'
