St Luke's Anglican Church 19th Battalion A.I.F. Pozieres Memorial, Clovelly Middle Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This war memorial is a large timber board, consisting of three panels, and inset with a timber cross. The honour roll lists the names of more than 800 men killed at Pozieres, France, in July 1916 during the First World War. The cross was originally located over the graves of the fallen in Pozieres. The memorial was dedicated at the Sailors and Soldiers Memorial Church in Clovelly, now St Luke's Anglican, during a special service on 5 August 1934. A photo of members of the 1/19th Battalion who paraded to the church was published in the Sydney Mail on 8 August. A report of the ceremony also appeared The Daily Telegraph on 6 August. The article said: The cross was unveiled by Col. W.K.S. Mackenzie, D.S.O., V.D., 19th Battalion A.I.F. and received by Lt. Col. W.A. Le R Fry O.B.E., V.D., 1/19th Batt. A.M.F., who committed it to the custody of the Rector, Rev. C. Wilder Clarke, and church wardens. Inscription In loving memory of the officers. N.C.O's. & men of the 19th Batt. A.I.F. killed at Pozieres July 1916 [Names] R.I.P. This cross was originally erected on the battlefield of Pozieres, France, February 1917, and was dedicated on the 5th August 1934 to the memory of members of the 19th Battalion A.I.F. who made the supreme sacrifice during the Great War of 1914-1918.
