St Matthew's Anglican Church Great War Honour Roll, South Grafton

This war memorial is a white marble tablet, with decorative edges and molding. It is inscribed with an honour roll of veterans who served in the First World War. Those listed were members of St Matthew's Anglican Church in South Grafton, now known as South Grafton Anglican Church. 

The tablet was unveiled on 23 May 1920 by General Sir William Birdwood and dedicated by Vicar Reverend G. E. Ure. General Birdwood and his entourage arrived in Grafton on 22 May, to attend a number of functions organised by the community. Also present for the occasion were Brigadier-General Irving, Major Pain, the Mayor of Grafton, the Mayor of South Grafton, and the church wardens. The ceremony was reported in detail in the Daily Examiner on 24 May. The General spoke briefly and said it was a "privilege to be present to unveil that memorial tablet to the glory of God and in memory of their fallen comrades." The article also described the tablet and listed the inscribed names. A comparison of this list to the tablet shows more names were added at a later date. 

The memorial is available to view when services are held in the church.
