St Paul's Presbyterian Church Second World War Memorial Windows, Walcha Middle Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background Located inside St Paul's Presbyterian Church in Walcha, NSW, these two stained glass windows are dedicated to members of the community who fell in the Second World War. One is on the eastern side of the church and the other is on the western side. The windows have similar designs and colouring, both featuring a medieval knight and architectural elements, including columns and arches. One window depicts St George, identifiable by the red cross on his clothing. He carries a flag and a sword. The other depicts an unknown knight, who carries a different flag and a shield. At the bottom of both windows is an honour roll of names. One is for the Royal Australian Air Force (R.A.A.F.) and the other is for the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.). There are 14 names in total, seven names on each roll. Stylised emblems for R.A.A.F. and the Royal Australian Navy are on the first roll and the Rising Sun badge of the Australian Army is on the second. The windows were made by Standard Glass Studios, Sydney, who specialised in memorial windows for churches. They were dedicated on 9 November 1952 by the Right Reverend Charles Keir, the Presbyterian Moderator. The special service was reported in the National Advocate the following day. The unveiling was held to coincide with the church's centenary celebrations. The windows are available for viewing when the church is open.
