Valla Public School First World War Honor Roll Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial is a polished timber honor roll for ex-pupils of Valla Public School who served in the First World War. It has a classical pediment at the top, with carved timber trims. The inscription and list of names are printed in gold. On 26 July 1918, the Nambucca and Bellinger News reported on a concert held on 19 July at the Valla Public Hall to raise funds for the memorial. It stated: Valla is doing very much good work, and has done much to provide some comfort for their noble lads; and so that the following generations may know something of the offerings of the boys it has been decided to erect an Honor Roll in the Public School where children can look with pride at the part played by their fellow brothers. The Valla Public School opened as a provisional school in July 1879 and closed as a public school in May 1969. The roll has since been moved to the Valla Public Hall. Access to it is restricted to the opening hours of the hall. Some of the veterans listed on this roll also appear on the Valla First World War Roll of Honour.
