Description / Background

This war memorial is a white marble plaque with timber supports at the top and bottom. It was erected in honour of three soldiers who fell in the Great War: Sergeant G.S. Lambton, Private C. McKnight and Driver R.C. McKnight.

Planning for the memorial was underway by September 1924 and the finished piece was unveiled at the Wang Wauk Soldiers Memorial Church on 25 April the following year. This date held particular importance, as it was also the official opening of the church. The plaque was unveiled by Mrs McKnight and Mrs Munro, mothers of the fallen soldiers. The Prayer of Dedication was offered by Reverend C.W. Nicholls (Northern Champion, 3 September 1924; 29 April 1925).

With falling attendances the church was moved to Nabiac, and attached to the rear of St Paul's Anglican Church. The plaque was also relocated to the church and is available for viewing when the church is open to the public for services.
