Yamba Public School Second World War Honour Roll Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This war memorial is a small, wall-mounted, black and white marble plaque, with incised red and black lettering. The plaque was purchased with funds raised by the pupils of Yamba Public School to honour the five boys from the school who gave their lives in the Second World War. The memorial was unveiled at the school by Sir Earle Page, the 11th Prime Minister of Australia, on 24 May 1946. The Clarence River Advocate, 27 May 1946, published a detailed report of the Empire Day unveiling, with those in attendance including Mr H H Russell, Chairman and President of the P and C Association, relatives of the fallen soldiers and Captain Grant, President of the Yamba RSL. The plaque was housed in the school until 1990, when the old school was demolished and a new school was built. The plaque was then donated to the Yamba Museum for display and is available for viewing during museum opening hours. Inscription Lest We Forget. [Names] Killed, World War II.
