Description / Background

This memorial is a small grey granite obelisk, set on three steps, one made of granite and the bottom two made of sandstone. The obelisk is set within a paved area in a small roadside park. Atop the memorial is a polished granite urn.

Veterans' names are engraved on the sides of the obelisk and highlighted in white. Attached to the south face is a bronze laurel wreath with a torch in the centre and the words 'Lest we forget' on a banner across the bottom section. The Australian Imperial Force, Royal Australian Navy, Merchant Navy and Returned Sailors', Soldiers' and Airmen's Imperial League of Australia badges are incorporated into the wreath at 9, 12, 3 and 6 o'clock respectively. The north face of the memorial is blank. A flagstaff is also set behind the memorial.

Notes on veterans' names:

  • J R Allen: The Australian War Memorial records Cpl John Richard Allan as Died of Wounds (DOW).
  • T Mackeral: The Australian War Memorial records Flight Sergeant Trevor Mackrell as Killed in Action (KIA).
  • For those veterans listed as having given their lives, the abbreviation DOS (Died on Service) is used in the below table.
