Sergeant Major Stanley Wilson Memorial Cross Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial is a plain brass cross, 90cms high. It is set on a rectangular three-stepped base, and is incised with a dedication to Company Sergeant Major Stanley Wilson who fell in the First World War. The cross was a gift from his parents Mr and Mrs Oliver Wilson of Woodlawn. It was dedicated on 21 March 1920 by Bishop of Grafton, Dr Druitt. It is located within St Andrew's Anglican Church, Lismore NSW. Stanley Wilson was born in Lismore. As a farmer aged 20 years, he enlisted as a sergeant in the 42nd Battalion, B Company on 20 September 1915. His unit embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A30 Borda on 5 June 1916. As a Company Sergeant Major in the battalion, he was killed in action on 30 March 1918. He was buried in the Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery in France.
