Jiggi-Georgica Second World War Roll of Honour Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This war memorial is a large, polished timber honour board. It has a classical pediment at the top, with the names of Jiggi and Georgica written in gold, and paintings of a black swan centred between the Australian and English flag. There are small shelves at the top and bottom of the board, with simple carved columns on either side. The names of 51 community members who enlisted in the Second World War appear on the board. The two men killed, G.H. Knight and F.G. Mitchell, are listed within a painted laurel wreath, positioned above the two columns of enlistee names. All names and text on the board are painted in gold. The Northern Star, Lismore, 18 March 1946, advertised a public meeting to be held that evening at the Jiggi Hall to consider a suitable district war memorial. In their issue of 26 October, the Star reported the Jiggi Honour Roll Committee had ordered an honour roll similar to that of the Jiggi-Georgica Great War Roll of Honor, at a cost of £32. A dance was to be held in November to raise funds for the purchase. It was also decided to hold a final welcome home to service personnel at this function. The roll was completed in September 1947. The honorary secretary C. Keightley advertised the unveiling ceremony in the Star on 20 September 1947. The event was held on the evening of 25 September. The memorial was placed alongside the existing Great War board. The Mayoress of Lismore, Mrs G. W. Walker, performed the unveiling, assisted by representatives of Lismore Returned Soldiers' League and district clergymen. District Service personnel were invited to attend and a Grand Ball followed the unveiling.
