Toongi Second World War Honour Roll Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The Toongi Second World War Honour Roll is a dark timber board, with curved top and base pieces. The names of those who served are printed in gold lettering across two columns on the centre panel. The Toongi War Fund was formed early in the war. They raised funds by holding social occasions and sports meetings, including dances, tennis tournaments, and other country entertainments. They also had a system of regular monthly donations. Funds had been forwarded to the Red Cross Society, Lord Mayor's Fund, and Prisoner of War Fund (The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate, 30 June 1942). The roll was unveiled at the Toongi Hall on 2 May 1946, during a Welcome Home function for veterans. The event was organised by a sub-committee of the War Fund. Mr Ian Bewglass acted as chairman and Mr J T Griffith, president of the Talbragar Shire Council, performed the unveiling. This was followed by two minutes silence in memory of the eight boys who paid the supreme sacrifice (The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate, 7 May 1946). The roll is located in the foyer of the hall and is available for viewing during events held on site. Toongi is 23 kilometres south of Dubbo, on the Obley Road.
