Auburn Hospital War Memorial Middle Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The Auburn Hospital War Memorial a large granite boulder, accompanied by flagpoles and surrounded by gardens. The front of the boulder is cut and highly polished and bears the inscription, which is highlighted in gold. The dedication was composed by Auburn RSL sub-Branch secretary Ken Triggs and sub-Branch member Ron Inglis. The memorial was designed and installed by Globe Memorial Company Pty Ltd of Auburn. It was dedicated by local member in the State Parliament, the Hon. Barbara Perry, and unveiled by Auburn RSL sub-Branch President Christopher Hurley on 27 June 2011. The memorial is adjacent to the entrance to Auburn Hospital. It stands on the site of the former memorial fountain and wishing well, which was established in 1965 and removed in 2010 during the building of the new hospital. The plaque from the original memorial is attached to the boulder. The Auburn/Cumberland RSL sub-Branch has had a close association with Auburn Hospital from the time of the First World War. Many ex-servicemen and women of Auburn have received treatment and medical services there over the past century. Anzac and Remembrance Day ceremonies are organised by the Cumberland RSL sub-Branch and the executive of the hospital. The memorial and wishing well were removed during the building of the new Auburn Hospital in 2010.
