Capertee and District Second World War Honour Roll Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial is a polished wooden honour roll that commemorates those from the Capertee district who served in the Second World War. The memorial has rounded sides and decorative inset timber typical of the Art Deco style. The names and fate of 28 service personnel are printed in gold and listed alphabetically in two columns on the board. In January 1948 the local branch of the CWA held a meeting to investigate obtaining an honour roll for those who had served in the Second World War to be erected in the railway station waiting room. The Lithgow Mercury, 18 March 1948, reported that 22 names of district personnel who had served had been collected, and a further appeal was made for any additional names to be notified to Mr A Kelly, First World War veteran, or Mrs A Elbourne, President of the CWA. The honour roll was unveiled in the general waiting room of the Capertee railway station on 1 May 1948. Only a small number attended but tribute was paid to the CWA who were responsible for procuring the honour roll. Mr Kelly presided over the function, and Mrs E T Withers, mother of two servicemen, unveiled the memorial (Lithgow Mercury, 10 May 1948). The honour roll is now located in the Capertee Memorial Hall.
