Dorrigo Memorial RSL Club Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial is a traditional RSL club offering various facilities to members and the public. It houses an extensive collection of military memorabilia including honour rolls. The club was officially opened by Mr W. Yeo, State President of the R.S.S. and A.I.L.A on Saturday 5 September 1953. The event was advertised in The Don Dorrigo Gazette on 28 August 1953, stating Mr Yeo was to be entertained by members of the RSL at a dinner following the unveiling. History On 2 August 1946, The Don Dorrigo Gazette reported the Dorrigo RSL Sub-branch was considering a proposal to build new club rooms. Almost five years later, on 29 June 1951, the paper reported a constitution was being prepared and the sub-branch had purchased a building in 1950. In the same issue, the honorary secretary V.F. Hart advertised for all members of the R.S.S. and A.I.L.A. to attend the inaugural meeting of the club to be held in the Club House on Wednesday 1 August 1951. On Wednesday 5 September, a special general meeting was held to adopt the constitution, rules and by-laws.
