Description / Background

This memorial consists of multiple brass plaques, positioned in garden beds along Hictory Street in Dorrigo, NSW. The plaques are attached to timber posts, which have been placed at the base of existing trees along the median strip.

Each plaque is inscribed with the name and dates of a conflict in which Australia has been involved, from the Boer War to present day, including peacekeeping missions. Each post is decorated with a sculpture of a white dove, with an olive branch in its mouth. The post for the peacekeeping plaque has a larger sculpture, with the dove depicted with its wings outstretched.

The installation of the plaques formed part of the town's actitivies to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, on Remberance Day in 2018.

In 2020, an additional plaque was installed to honour the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, as part of the 'Australia Remembers 1945–2020' campaign. It was attached on the post below the original plaque for the Second World War.

Nearby are a flagpole and the Dorrigo War Memorial, where commemorative services take place.
