Dunedoo District Honour Roll and Memorial Avenue Middle Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial is a brick monument, consisting of three walls covered with a roof, creating a shelter-like structure. On the front face of each wall is an honour roll covered with perspex. The memorial faces south to protect the names from the sun. It is also flood lit. Behind the monument is an avenue of trees in memory of those from Dunedoo and district who fell in all wars. A bushrock bears a plaque for this memorial, which was dedicated on 15 August 1995. Towards the end of 1947, the Dunedoo Chamber of Commerce sponsored a public meeting to consider a war memorial for Dunedoo. Consequently a Dunedoo Honour Committee was formed. At the meeting of the Cobbora Shire Council held in May 1948, permission was granted to the committee to erect an honour roll (Wellington Times, 24 May 1948). The Mudgee Guardian, 23 September 1948 reported that various plans had been considered for the proposed honour roll and a recent meeting of the committee, it was decided to place an order based on a blue print from Wunderlich Ltd., Sydney. The roll was estimated to cost 300 pounds plus sale tax and was expected to be ready towards the end of the year. The site selected was the northern side of Bolaro Street and directly opposite Walleroo Street. The secretary was instructed to secure the names of eligible Sandy Creek service men and women and to send the names to Birriwa and Leadville so that names could be checked with lists prepared for rolls at those centres. All residents of Dunedoo and District were also asked to check the list of names.
