Description / Background

The memorial is a framed honour board dedicated to military personnel from the Fairbridge Farm School at Molong who served in the period from 3 September 1939 to December 1972. The board is divided into four columns with the names and fate of service personnel listed who served in the Second World War, Korean War, Vietnam War and in the Australian Regular Forces.

In 1937 a new farm school was established at Molong in the style of the Fairbridge Farm scheme. The scheme was founded by Kingsley Fairbridge, a South African who brought children from the slums of London to farm schools in Australia and Canada, believing the children could have a fresh start and learn farming skills to assist in the development of new countries.

The Fairbridge Farm School at Molong was officially opened by Lord Gowrie, the Governor General, on 28 November 1938. Migration ceased during the Second World War but in the post-war period, the Molong Farm School accepted further large numbers of children. Some 1,200 children attended the farm which closed in 1974.

To date it is unknown when the Fairbridge Farm School Honour Roll was installed at the Molong RSL Club.
