Horse Shoe Creek-Green Pigeon First and Second World Wars Honour Roll Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This war memorial is a honour roll for the First and Second World Wars. It is a large timber board, with a classical pediment at the top and strong carved columns on either side of the listed names. The pediment features a colourful painting of the crossed Union Jack and Australian Red Ensign. The list includes 103 veterans from the small communities of Horseshoe Creek and Green Pigeon, near Kyogle, NSW. The names are printed in gold, across four columns, and are divided under the headings '1914–1918', '1939–1945', and 'Women Services'. The roll was made by Marsh Bros. of Kyogle. It was unveiled at the Horseshoe Creek Memorial Hall on Saturday, 10 January 1948. The function took the form of a "grand social" and was described in detail in the Kyogle Examiner on 13 January. The unveiling was performed by Mrs G Collins and Mrs R Jones, mothers of two servicemen who lost their lives in the Second World War. The memorial was moved to the Kyogle Memorial Institute, when the hall faced demolition in 2017. Access to the roll is restricted to the opening hours of the Institute.
