Rous Public School Great War Honor Roll Middle Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The memorial is a small pressed-brass honor roll for the First World War. It features several decorative elements, the main one being a soldier wearing a slouch hat, flanked by the Union Jack and Australian flags. There are also rifles, sandbags, and the rays of the rising sun in the background. The roll is dedicated to 16 ex-pupils from the Rous Public School who served and gave their lives in the war. In addition to the traditional dedicatory words 'In memory of', the roll also includes the Latin phrase 'Non Omnis Moriar', meaning 'Not all of me will die'. The phrase is from a Roman poet, known by the English name of Horace, and complements the purpose of the honor roll, to always remember the fallen. The roll was made by the Wunderlich Company in Sydney, who made many brass memorials of the same size and similar design. What sets this roll apart from their others is that the names are inscribed as a group on a sheet of metal, which is attached to the bottom portion of the roll. In other Wunderlich designs, the names are inscribed on individual plaques that are individually attached to the roll. The history of the roll is unknown. However, the names are in alphabetical order and the end year of the year is given as 1919, indicating the memorial was created after the end of the war. The roll is located at the Rous Public School and is available for viewing by appointment only. Also on site is the Rous Public School Great War Roll of Honor.
