Description / Background

The Stuart Town War Memorial Gates consist of a set of concrete pillars, supporting metal swing gates. They were constructed in 1951 and dedicated by Colonel Nathaniel Dunbar Barton CBE on 11 June 1951.

Attached to the front faces of the pillars are three plaques. The two marble plaques are inscribed with an honour roll of those who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars. The third plaque is dedicated to Private Thomas Cohen, who was killed in action in the Great War.

Planted along the fence adjacent to the gates is a memorial garden, which contains plaques inscribed with the names of conflicts in which Australia has been involved. A Lone Pine is also planted nearby.

The site is used for annual Anzac commemorative services.
