Wellingrove Memorial Hall Middle Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The Wellingrove Memorial Hall is a typically designed rural community hall. It is constructed of timber, on a concrete foundation. It is faced with timber cladding and has a high gabled roof, topped with galvanised iron. At the front it has an open verandah, which protects the front door. There are also entrances on the sides and rear of the building and several sets of windows along each side. In August 1925, residents of Wellingrove decided to erect a hall, which would house the Wellingrove First World War Roll of Honor and be a permanent memorial to the men who had served in the war. The Wellingrove Memorial Hall Association was formed and office holders were elected. It was also decided to focus on the building itself in the first instance and consider additions, such as a dressing rooms, at a later date. The hall was built by Mr Norman Lawrance and was officially opened on 28 January 1927. The event was recorded in the Glen Innes Examiner on 5 February. The article gave this description: The hall is nicely proportioned being 50ft. long by 25ft. wide with walls 12ft. high and a unusually strong well-designed roof. The hall, which was erected in a workmanlike manner by Mr. Norman Lawrance, is approached by a wide verandah. In recent times, the community has constructed a steel fence along the front of the hall, complete with a two gates. The gates are surrounded by a simple metal arch and include the words 'Lest we forget'.
