Description / Background

A 1000mm high sloped plinth with 300 x 350 mm base and 170 x 250 mm top, constructed of black polished granite. This was set on a concrete base measuring 450 x 100 mm and inscribed with gold lettering. The flagpole behind the plinth has been retained from the war memorial which previously stood at St Johns. Beside the plinth is a shield-shaped freestanding stone plaque marking the Garden of Remembrance. After reading the inscription on the plinth, acclaimed songwriter Allan Caswell wrote 'All Gave Some, Some Gave All', which was recorded by entertainer and Vietnam Veteran Col Elliott.
