Randwick District War Memorial Middle Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background The Randwick District War Memorial is a sandstone cenotaph, bearing dedication plaques and a bronze laurel wreath. It is located in High Cross Park on Avoca Street, opposite The Prince of Wales Hospital. A flagstaff is also on site. A unique feature of this memorial is that the names of more than 4,000 First World War veterans are written on a parchment roll, which is stored inside the cenotaph. Inscription Plaque 1 - front Service & Sacrifice To the glory of God and in grateful recognition of the services rendered to the Empire by those who served in the Great War 1914–1918. This memorial is dedicated by the people of Randwick Plaque 3 - front Australia Remembers 1945–1995 This plaque, unveiled by the mayor of the city of Randwick Councillor Chris Bastic on Monday, 14th August, 1995 is in honour of the men and women who served Australia in time of conflict during World War II Lest we forget Plaque 4 - back Randwick District Memorial Unveiled by the right honourable Lord Forster PC.,GCMG, Governor General of Australia 3rd day of May 1925 Within this cenotaph lies a scroll of parchment containing names of Randwick residents over four thousand of whom served the Empire in the Great War 1914–1918 Plaque 5 - back Service & Sacrifice To the glory of God and in recognition of the services rendered by those residents of Randwick City who served in the Boer War 1899 to 1902 the first conflict joined by the federated Australian nation. This memorial is dedicated by the people of Randwick City officially unveiled 25 May 2014.
