Trooper Mark Donaldson VC Park Middle Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This park commemorates Trooper Mark Donaldson, a Dorrigo resident, who was awarded the Victoria Cross (VC) for his actions in Afghanistan. There is a shelter with three panels which outline the history of the Victoria Cross, provides information about the Afghanistan conflict, the role of the Special Air Service (S.A.S.) troops there, as well as a section on Donaldson and the Dorrigo connection. Donaldson was born on 2 April 1979 and grew up at Dorrigo. He joined the Australian Army on 18 June 2002 and on 2 September 2008 was involved in an ambush of a combined Afghan, United States of America and Australian Army convoy. For his actions on that day, he was awarded a Victoria Cross.
