Deer Vale Lady War Workers Great War Illuminated Address Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This illuminated address expresses appreciation to the Deer Vale Lady War Workers, from those from the area who served in the First World War. Lady War Workers Groups were created during the First World War. They raised funds for serving soldiers and organised welcome home functions. In the case of the Deer Vale group, it was the local branch of the Red Cross. The Deer Vale soldiers organised a 'complimentary social' to say thank you and present the address to them, which was ornately illustrated by creator John Sands. It features Empire flags at the top and wattle blossoms and the Red Cross emblem at the bottom. The Don Dorrigo Gazette, 3 November 1920, described the function held in the Deer Vale Hall on Wednesday, 27 October. Deer Vale is a small community located west of Dorrigo, NSW. The memorial is located at the Don Dorrigo and Guy Fawkes Historical Society Museum. A similar memorial is listed on the NSW War Memorials Register as the Bangalow and District Lady War Workers Great War Illuminated Address. Inscription The Lady Workers of Deer Vale On behalf of the Returned Soldiers of this locality, we desire to express our appreciation of your noble and untiring efforts on our behalf during the Great War, 1914–1919. Your splendid spirit and noble example are worthy of, and have won our highest commendation, and you will always have the great satisfaction of knowing that you did all that was humanly possible in the time of your Country's need. The result of your splendid work was to be found in every theatre of War in which the members of the Australian Imperial Force were engaged, and carried to us the memory of our dear homeland. We trust that your future will be happy and prosperous, and that you all will long be spared to enjoy the privilege and freedom of our Great Empire. We tender the sincerest appreciation and gratitude of the Deer Vale Boys.
