Description / Background

Armatree Village War Memorial is a metal flagpole, standing on top of a concrete plinth. It is enclosed by a metal fence, with a metal archway for the entrance. The arch is surmounted by a cross and includes the words 'Lest we forget'.

Two plaques are attached to the front face of the plinth. The larger plaque is an honour roll of four veterans with a connection to the Armatree community. Two veterans died in the First World War and the other two died in the Second World War.

A recent addition to the site are a series of metal panels, positioned under an awning-style shelter. The panels tell the history of the soldier settlements in the area, following the two wars.

Planted nearby is the Corporal Alexander Henry Buckley VC Lone Pine. Corporal Buckley is one of the four veterans named on the above plaque.
