Description / Background

The Castle Hill Club War Memorial is a multifaceted monument, including a decorative memorial wall, reflection pool and a low plinth, faced with several plaques. The memorial is situated outside the entrance to the Castle Hill RSL Club. 

Also on site is a sandstone cannon, accompanied by two flagpoles and a plaque, surrounding by a garden of rosemary.

Monument plaque 1

This plaque was unveiled by Senator the Hon Robert Hill Minister for Defence on the 23rd July 2005 to mark the completion of major extensions and upgrades in the presence of, W.E. Glenny AO RFD ED – President, R.A. Cumming JP – Vice President, R. Hudson JP – Vice President, R.B. Duncan OAM JP – Treasurer.

Directors: M.W. Cummings, R.M. Smith OAM JP, W. Hromow JP, B.N. Stansfield, P.P. Lippman, D. Tait, N.H. Simmons, D.B. Wood.

General Manager: D. O’Neil.

Design & Construction by Paynter Dixon Constructions.

This tablet was lain by Major The Hon J.B. Shand V.D.M.L. in memory of fallen comrades. 23rd November 1935. Lest We Forget.

This stone was laid by a distinguished soldier and Governor of NSW, His Excellency the Right Hon Sir Alexander Hore-Ruthven V.C., K.C.M.G., C.B., D.S.O. 23rd November 1935

This plaque was unveiled by His Excellency Air Marshal Sir James Rowland, KBE, DFC, AFC, Governor of New South Wales on August 9th 1986 to commemorate the opening of the major new extensions in the presence of Mr A.W.L. Smith Directors & Friends

This plaque was unveiled by His Excellency The Governor of N.S.W. Sir Roden Cutler V.C., K.C.M.G., K.C.V.O., C.B.E. on the 28th September 1974 to commemorate the opening of the New Castle Hill R.S.L. Club in the presence of President F.V.B Isaacs Directors & Friends

Cannon plaque

This memorial cannon was unveiled on the 9th April 2015 to mark the centenary of Anzac in the presence of, President - W.E. Glenny AO RFD ED, Vice President – R.A. Cumming JP, Vice President – D.B. Wood, Treasurer – R.B. Duncan OAM JP. Directors – D.A. Elliott MA MP, W. Hromow JP, R.M. Smith OAM JP, D.M. Taitb OAM. Chief Executive Officer – D.M. O’Neil.
