Waves Fitness and Aquatic Centre War Memorial Middle Image Image Image Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This war memorial artwork is attached to an exterior wall at the entrance to the Waves Fitness and Aquatic Centre in Baulkham Hills. The artwork is a life-size steel silhouette of a soldier, accompanied by a plaque. This permanent two-metre installation is an interpretive tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of current and past service men and service women. In front of the wall is a garden planted with rosemary, which has particular significance for Australians on Anzac Days as it grew wild on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The Aquatic Centre replaced the previous pool complex that was known as the The Hills Shire Council War Memorial Swimming Centre (opened 11 March 1967). Located inside the building are a series of plaques related to the new pool and the former memorial pool. Inscription Artwork plaque This is the site of the former Baulkham Hills Memorial Swimming Pool. We continue to give thanks and pay our respects to all veterans, service personnel and their families.
