It is made of white Sicilian marble with the names printed across several panels. The architect who designed the piece was J.B. Macdonald and the contractors were Larcombe and Sons of Dubbo. Once the decision was made in 1916 to create an honour roll for the school, an appeal was made in local newspapers for the names of those who had enlisted in the A.I.F. The Headmaster E. Dash. appealed to residents for names from the District School in the Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate, 3 October 1916. The newspaper published a detailed list of names on 27 October followed by a further list in the Dubbo Dispatch and Wellington Independent, 3 November. The Dubbo Liberal, 30 January 1917 published a supplementary list of names. In 1919, Mr J. Lydon, Principal, made a further appeal for names. The Dubbo Dispatch, 24 August 1920 reported that he expressed concern because of an apparent apathy towards the project. Action was eventually taken to create the roll and an unveiling ceremony was organised by the P&C Association. The event took place on the morning of 6 June, to mark Empire Day. The Dubbo Dispatch, 7 June 1921 reported on the occasion, which attracted a large audience. Special attendees included Principal Lydon; Mr. E.R. Hawke, President of the Parents & Citizens (P&C) Association; Dr. E.H. Burkitt (RSL); and Mr. W.P. McManamey. The unveiling itself was performed by Mrs Thomas Worthington. A band performed and cadets and militia organised a guard of honour. A tribute was paid to Mr Lydon for his work in creating the memorial. The newspaper also published the list of names on the roll. The memorial is located inside the senior classroom block at the school.
